Fandom: DC Comics (Green Arrow)
Characters/Pairings: Roy Harper (back when he was Speedy)
Media: Wacom tablet in GIMP
Notes/comments: This took me a really long time, and I don’t just mean that I first had the idea for this in 2006. I have no idea what I am doing wrong that digital coloring takes me so long, isn’t it supposed to be efficient? I suppose it’s one of the pitfalls of being self-taught. Anyway, it’s Roy during the famous heroin addict story line. As always, feedback is very welcome.

I like this a lot, although I feel it holds itself together better at the lower resolution. I like that his nose is not perfect, I like that there’s some bruising throughout and not just near the trackmarks. The one thing I might say to work on, and I am no artist here so feel free to ignore the hell outta me, is that your method of shadowing doesn’t seem to work (or maybe it does and I’m just not understanding your intention) – it really makes the person and objects appear to ‘float’ above surfaces rather than lay upon them.
The coloring really works for me, as well.

Thanks for your comments. I’m glad you like it overall. And yeah, lower resolution hides errors and such, it was intended to be seen smaller than the original size.
I can see what you mean with the shadows. I’m not that good with digital coloring. The intention here wasn’t realistic shadows, but kind of the style shadows are in cartoons? That’s why there is little shading and more a two color thing with the flat colors and just darker area, but it wasn’t supposed to create a floating effect, just stylized.
